October 2024 – Patient News

New GP

We are pleased to let you know a new doctor will be joining Coastal Medical Rooms in late November. Dr Matthew Claridge is from Palmerston North and is looking forward to joining our practice.

Fee Increase

We understand visiting your doctor can be costly. Our fees have remained unchanged since September 2023. Sadly, we are unable to maintain these rates without compromising the range, quality and accessibility of services we offer. Our fees will increase from 4th November 2024 and apply to the following services:

  • Standard Consultations (GP & Nurse)
  • ACC Consultations (GP & Nurse)

There has been no change to prescription fees or enrolled patients with a Community Service Card (CSC) as these fees are capped. Enrolled patients under the age of 14 remain free. Our updated fee schedule can be found on our website:Coastal Medical Rooms Schedule of Fees 04.11.24

Tips on how to get the most from your doctor’s appointment

If you need to see your doctor, here are some hints and tips on how to get the most from your appointment:
  • Prepare a list of what you would like to talk to your GP about – if it’s a decent list you will need to book 2 appointments!
  • Be clear on what you want to talk about – if you have a list give it to the GP to check over and they can decide what is most important to talk about first – you may need to book a 2nd appointment to cover your full list.
  • If you like to use Google, let the GP know what you have found and what concerns you about that information.
  • We aim to continue the GP-Patient relationship as this is important to your GP, however it may involve changing the way you see your GP, either over the phone or virtually by video.
  • Continuity of care is important – if you have a relationship with a particular GP please say.
  • If you are coming to see the GP about a specific issue, write down what symptoms you are experiencing. Is there anything that makes the symptoms better or worse? Does it happen at a particular time of day? Sometimes in the appointment it may be hard to remember this information so write it down and bring it with you.
  • Dress appropriately. If you are coming to see the GP for your injured knee, the GP will need to see it. Skinny jeans would not be a good idea. Same if you have a foot issue, avoid lace up boots or hard to remove shoes. If you have spots on your face, don’t wear make-up to cover them, the GP will want to see them.
